   The Society of Professional Journalists is feting
the largest Latino journalists organization in the
country during the group??s 25th anniversary
convention in San Jose. Meet members of NAHJ and the
SPJ-NorCal chapter members over the free appetizers
and the no-host bar!

   Compare notes, share stories, and enjoy the company
of fellow journalists as we contemplate an industry
undergoing radical change.  Newsrooms are shrinking;
corporations intent on controlling their message and
image have moved light years into sophisticated
manipulation; and politicians and governments are
increasingly aggressive in challenging press freedoms.

   Founded in 1984, NAHJ's mission is to increase the
percentage of Latinos working in our nation's
newsrooms and to improve news coverage of the Latino
community.
	
   Now, more than ever, the Society of Professional
Journalists is a critical sentinel in the defense of
the professon we share.  Since 1909, SPJ has been a
champion of unfettered journalism. From funding the
legal defense of imprisoned journalist Josh Wolf, to
monitoring local, state and federal governments for
legislative assaults on transparency and access to
information laws, the support network has continued
its long tradition of fighting on behalf of all
journalists.

   The Northern California chapter of SPJ is one of
the most active regional groups in the nation.  We??ll
show you what we??ve done for you, and how you can
help our circle grow.
