An Appeal...

Hi friends,

As you know, Shaping San Francisco has been going for almost a decade on a
shoestring. I'm writing to ask you to donate to the project for several
specific purposes. We are on the cusp of a whole new on-line presence that
will include both a new, open wiki version, and a more carefully curated
collection that we'll be creating over the next few months. We've launched a
fundraising campaign to raise $10,000 and have already acquired $2,000 of
that, so we're off to a good start.

We maintain our current website as well as two public kiosks at the Main
Library and New College. We have our ongoing series of Talks at CounterPULSE
two Wednesdays every month, recorded and broadcast on KUSF, 90.3 FM on
Thursday nights at 10:30 p.m. And we also take history to the public
regularly by way of our ongoing bicycle history tours that are offered 8-10
times a year.


We've done a great job of keeping these balls in the air all these years
with entirely volunteer labor. That is becoming impossible to sustain. Now I
come to you with hat in hand.


We are raising money to pay for the radio time (very inexpensive at $25 per
show) and to help pay for the extensive editing time it takes to turn our 2+
hour Talks into half-hour radio shows. We are also raising money to pay a
programming team to convert our existing content to a new system that will
allow us to finally have easy access to updating and fixing and improving
our collection on-line. And we hope it will also recapture some of the
multimedia magic we created in our original version that sadly was made
obsolete by changes in the Windows operating system…

right on the home page.
