Well ... hello! At the end of this email is some info on the sf
opera's prop giveaway on Dec. 6 ... but first a quick "icebreaker
with relevance," as Stephanie says.
So, we have this listserv, and it belongs to all of you. As a
community it is latent. However, there are 71 people in this room,
about a third from the Internet, and the rest signed up by our
gracious founder (dressed as a bee, her table bedecked with
sunflowers) at the Expo for the Artist & Musician, which happened
last September at SomArts.
The icebreaker idea was to do an introduction, and invite you all to
do the same (i.e. delurk). So, by way of introduction, and regarding
the creative endeavor, here is my interest and offering:
.. Writers ... here's a platform for you. I messed with a Word
Press template
and put up a story blog of sorts for "literature of the
fantastic." Take it for what
you will. Anyone interested in developing the site or
contributing any writings,
check it out and drop me a line ... :

.. Musicians ... I've been playing banjo in the old-time style,
and am making
my teacher happy. I also do a mean Derek Bailey impersonation on guitar.
Unfortunately, playing music in a group context is difficult to
do, what with
the frenetic overcommitted urban madness. But I would love to find some
folks interested in playing old-time string band music.
"Liberated jazz," too.
If you are so moved, feel free to make an intro that includes a need
and an offering.
Oh yes ... Opera props!

Thursday, Dec. 6: San Francisco Opera Prop Giveaway
This just in from the San Francisco Opera!
The San Francisco Opera Prop Department, in order to make room for
new productions, is offering to other Bay Area Opera and Theater
venues, props at no cost from our old Productions of Meistersinger,
Forza del Destino, Elisir d'Amore, and Abduction from the Seraglio.
There will be a variety of styles and periods of furniture and props;
some quite large. Distribution will be on a "first come, first dibs"
basis. Please be prepared to take your treasures with you or to pick
up within a day.
Here are a few of the odder items we have to part with:
*A complete foldout stagecoach full of "medicine" bottles, complete
with a puppeteered cartoon horse
* Several large tables of a perfect height for children's art and
craft projects
* 3 rolling haystacks (how cool is that?)
* several large bolted-together tetrahedral barriers
* 5 small rolling gazebo houses with varying domed rooftops
* Lots of vineage and potted flowers
Date: Thursday, December 6, 2007

printed #5 next to the open rolling door toward the north end near
the 20th St. overpass.
