Message-ID: Dear folks -- ArtSF is one of those incredibly determined "little spaces that could." Now they face the prospect of being shuttered forever, and, worse still, actively punished for their good works with massive debt from a bad lease. Joe Mama and many other amazing folks -- K2, Kim Carlson, Nate Madhappys and many others -- have kept ArtSF alive for years, packing the space with people for their multifaceted art/music/performance events, and give hundreds of artists their first showing ever. They've also hosted live music -- including many Noise Pancakes sessions -- and even have a new and growing community of eight artists-in-residence. It would be such a loss to see this productive space go down. We are honored to provide nonprofit fiscal sponsorship to ArtSF. They are partners and peers, and it's not possible for us to say how much we admire their perseverance and their determination to create a non-elitist space for the arts directly in the heart of the Mission -- 16th & Capp. ArtSF has been building a true community space in that patch of gritty urban reality, for all flavors, against all odds. They've overcome some highly problematic landlord issues in the past, but now they really need our help. They need financial support and legal support. They do NOT deserve to be punished for their good works. See Joe's email below and contact them directly to lend your support. Or drop us a line at 415/861-5302, and we'll pass along your info to them. Please forward this widely, and thank you for your support of the arts in our communities. Sincerely, Josh Wilson Independent Arts & Media --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ** SAVE ARTSF ** http://www.artsf.org/ hey everyone, the community art space, ARTsf, that we run in the mission, is in danger of going under!!!!!! we are throwing a party to raise money to keep the space alive, right now there are 8 artists in residence and a number of community events constantly taking place here. If you work with an arts organization or project of any sort, large or small, there is space for you at this event. Educators, venues, galleries and service providers are particularly encouraged to attend, as are collectives, co-ops, performance troupes, basement publishers, garage studio cats and attic printmakers. We also welcome back old friends we haven't seen in a while, including the Jewish Community Center, Destiny Arts Center, Teaching Intermedia Learning Tools, Katabatik Metacommunications Platform and more.
