Dear Friends;

For eight years, Independent Arts & Media has strengthened public dialogue by increasing access to independent voices. In fact, our latest FREE dialogue event is coming up this Wednesday, presented in cooperation with Shaping San Francisco at CounterPulse:

     Dec. 12: "Save the News!"
A conversation about journalism & democracy
     http://www.newsdesk.org/archives/004487.html

It's just the latest happening in what has proven to be another banner year of ALL-VOLUNTEER work to extend civic participation through public discourse and cultural engagement:

    - The EIGHTH annual Expo for the Artist & Musician went off in grand
style on September 15 at SomArts. Thanks to George Aguilar of
SomArts Media for making this great video of the event:

    - We staged six FREE D.I.Y. Workshops around San Francisco, covering
everything from taking your band on tour and self-publishing to
Internet & LPFM radio and indie filmmaking.

    - We produced a 24-part radio series based on Shaping SF's Talks!
      series at CounterPulse. Listen online:

    - We relaunched the Newsdesk.org Web site and the free News You
Might Have Missed (NYMHM) newsletter in a new narrative format
that has attracted new readers and subscribers, and has more
people commenting on our work than ever.

SUPPORTING INDEPENDENT CULTURE & COMMUNITY
We founded Indy Arts because we were tired of waiting for large corporations to produce media and culture that's relevant to our lives ... because a steady diet of "infotainment" can't sustain the kind of civic dialogue and creative vitality that our democracy needs.

If the mainstream isn't good enough, we'll do it ourselves!

INDY ARTS NEEDS YOU
All this productivity, and our annual budget covers little more than rent and utilities. That's why your help is so important. Your donations of $25, $50, $100, $500 or more will keep Indy Arts alive and growing. Details on how to make a tax-deductible donation are at the end of this email -- or just click through to our secure online donor page:

Thanks so much for your support of independent culture and community!

Sincerely,

The Indy Arts Volunteers
