   As the new year begins, Independent Arts and Media is
   settling into their wonderful new offices in North Beach;
   and we are beginning to work on a six month series of
   workshops staring in March.
   
   Plus, of course, in the fall the Expo for Artist & Musician
   returns, with many exciting ideas and changes already in the
   works.

* "Broadcast Cowboy" - 01/18/08

  On Friday, January 18th at 8:30PM Oddball Films presents the San
  Francisco Premiere of David Washburn's documentary "Broadcast
  Cowboy". Also featured with be rare Western Swing Soundies from
  the archives of Bay Area musicologist and film archivist Steve
  Hathaway. Director David Washburn and archivist Steve Hathaway
  will appear live to introduce, discuss and answer questions
  about their work and the Bay Areas history of Western Swing.

  Penny Rimbaud and Gee Vaucher, founding members of seminal early
  English punk band and anarcho-agitators Crass will be appearing
  at San Francisco's own Hypnodrome. Rimbaud will give a spoken
  word performance, followed by an interview with Rimbaud and
  Vaucher by legendary Bay Area punk-documentarian V. Vale.
   An audience Q&A session will follow.

  SFWFF, LEF Foundation, and Tilt Media are partnering this spring
  to offer a free film training program to young women ages 14 to
  19 in the Bay area. Young women will have the opportunity to
  create public service announcements to inspire social change.
 
 
* Call for Submissions: The Online Metaverse Art Workshop (OMAW)

  A pilot program that trains arts leaders and curators to use
  the virtual world platform to better serve emerging and
  established artists in their communities and to learn non-
  traditional ways of selling, promoting and fundraising

 48 photo-based artists will explore and document Alameda neighborhoods,
 favorite places, and secret hideaways. Traditions and cherished nostalgia,

  exclusively to youth groups (ages 13-24). The purpose of these workshops
  is to further media education and film appreciation through the non-profit

* Small Press Spotlight - featuring Joey Sayers - 01/26/08 -05/04/08

  Joey Sayers is a cartoonist living in Oakland, California.  She has been
  drawing comics since she was very young.  Her first strip, P.O.W. (Play on
  Words), drawn at age 7 was considered hilarious by herself and her
  co-author/father.
