On September 15, 2007, the Bay Area's only grassroots connection
fair for independent arts, music and culture returns to SomArts
Cultural Center in San Francisco.
The Expo for the Artist & Musician is a unique "Free Culture Fair,"
an all-day extravaganza where the emphasis is on making connections,
sharing resources and creating culture and community. All are
welcome at this community melting pot -- creative folks, fans,
patrons, arts and culture workers, hobbyists, producers, youth,
adults and families.
Admission is donation-based and NO ONE is turned away. The Expo
features dozens of Bay Area arts organizations, free workshops,
performances, and hundreds of local artists and musicians.
Attendees browse tables staffed by local galleries, nonprofits,
collectives and small businesses; access services and resources;
and join workshops and salons on arts skills, methods, practices,
history and issues.
EXPO 2007 FEATURES
-- More than 25 free WORKSHOPS & SKILLSHARES on arts marketing, intellectual property and licensing, historical dance, LPFM and Internet radio, burlesque, pinhole photography, film financing, a science-fiction writers' workshop ... and more!
-- EXHIBITORS representing 75+ local arts organizations, service groups, galleries, studios, schools and nonprofits from every corner of the arts and music community.

-- "$56 Million & Where's the Art?" on Sept. 12 ... A panel and audience-led dialogue focusing on SOLUTIONS, that starts with the question: What can San Francisco do to better leverage the abundant community support for the arts? With: reps of the Haas and San Francisco foundations, the SF Arts Commission, the SF Arts Task Force and more.
-- Our Third Annual Community Arts Showcase, featuring local jug bands, soul and gospel vocals, solo guqin (Chinese violin), art-pop and two open mic sessions.
-- A hands-on children's activity area, delicious food and an outdoor beer and wine garden.
ABOUT THE EXPO
Since 2000, the Expo has acquired a diverse and dedicated constituency, stacks of wildly enthusiastic evaluation forms, and a review from the San Francisco Chronicle that dubs us "New Utopians" working for "a better future for San Francisco." As we grow, the Expo remains a low-cost event, firmly embedded at the grassroots, and dedicated to strengthening creative and cultural activity, participation and cross-pollination at the community level.
SPONSORS
Expo 2007 is produced with support from the Zellerbach Family Foundation, the San Francisco Bay Guardian, CELLspace, KUSF-FM, 924 Gilman Street, MyQuire.com and MesArt.com.
VOLUNTEERS!
This year, the Expo is produced ENTIRELY by volunteers! It is a testament to what community can do. We we want to offer heartfelt thanks and admiration for their extraordinary work:
Melinda Adams for booking the workshop series, Stephen Parr for booking TWO Expo film screenings, Ellyn Parker for overseeing the stage and event details, Katie Hennessey at CELLspace for booking and hosting an extraordinary *week* of additional DIY, hands-on workshops, Rachel Hospodar of Pandora's Trunk for organizing the 2007 Expo Exhibitor's Reception & Salon, Rachel Scott, Nadine D., and Ron Corley for behind the scenes miracle-working, and the many workshop leaders, exhibitors and performers who've made this all possible.
If you'd like to support the Expo with your volunteer energy, we'd surely be grateful. Register as an Expo volunteer here:
