Subject: Health Care for All Californians -- Act Now!
Message-ID: <00e801c7c02b$235d9210$6601a8c0@fileserver.theatrebayarea.com>
Dear Arts Forum Supporters:
Arts Forum SF urges you to join with our friends at Health Access (
www.health-access.org) in a statewide
campaign to ensure universal access to health care for all Californians.
Artists are often uninsured or saddled with premiums they cannot afford.
Join us in urging the Legislature and the Governor to make affordable,
quality healthcare for all Californians.
Right now, major changes to healthcare are being proposed by the Governor
and legislative leaders. While there is a good deal of consensus around the
major goal - increasing access to affordable health care - there are a host
of details and potential devils. Get informed and make your views known.
There are three things you can do:
1.) Take survey that will report vital data on current health coverage
among artists. Go to
www.artistsunitedforhealthcare.org
2.) While you're on the site, write your Assembly Member and Senator urging
them to act now on universal access to health care:
www.artistsunitedforhealthcare.org
3.) On July 11, go to Sacramento! Join health care activists from all
walks of life for a rally and lobbying our legislators in Sacramento. Find
more on the advocacy event, organized by the nonprofit organization, Health
Access, below.
A message from Heath Access:
"This year is the best chance yet to reach agreement on a statewide plan for
quality, affordable health coverage. Now is the time to tell your elected
representatives what you support in the proposals and what you oppose. The
insurance companies, the lobbyists, the special interests will all be heard
in Sacramento so make sure you are heard as well. After all, who knows more
about that's wrong with health coverage now and about the health coverage
that is really needed?
On Wednesday, July 11 the Senate Health Committee takes up healthcare reform
legislation. The schedule:
10AM: Meet in the big tent at the South Steps (N Street side) of the Capitol
for a brief welcome and lobby training. Look for the "It's OUR Healthcare"
banner.
10:35AM: Lobby in Capitol
11:30AM: Lunch on the Capitol steps
12:30PM Line up at hearing chamber, Room 4203 (Potential for earlier line
up)
1:30 - 5:30PM (Or whenever hearing is over) Attend Senate Health Committee
hearing
Plan to leave for Sacramento early in the morning, returning in the evening
of the same day. This is an all day event. No previous experience is
necessary. Training, a bad lunch, soda and bottled water will be provided."
Please confirm your attendance on July 11 by emailing Jessica Rothhaar at
Health Access. Please give your name, cell phone or home phone number, name
of your State Senator, and the city where you live: Email to:
jessicar@health-access.org
If you have questions, call Jessica at 510-873-8787, x107.

Subject: Health Care Action Alert
Message-ID: <027a01c7cd65$4a8d8c90$7501a8c0@fileserver.theatrebayarea.com>
Arts Forum Supporters!
Our friends at Health Access are asking artists in our region to make a
difference in the ongoing debate on health in Sacramento. We urge you
to add your voices, as theatre artists, sending your personal stories to
our legislative leaders in Sacramento. More below!
An Urgent Message From Health Access!
Bay Area artists have an unprecedented opportunity to be heard in
California's health care debate, and join with others to win quality,
affordable health care we can count on.
This summer, the health care debate enters a critical phase, and the key
question is: whose voices will our elected leaders listen to when
they're making decisions about our healthcare?
Bay Area legislators are playing a key role. We need them to SEE THE
FACES & READ THE STORIES of Bay Area artists who want action THIS YEAR
to make quality, affordable healthcare a reality.
Share your story. Everyone has a story about a time when the high cost
of health care has been a problem, for ourselves or for someone we know.
Please
weigh in by emailing a photogram to your State Senator to
SHARE YOUR STORY and show your support for quality, affordable
healthcare.
Emailing a photogram is easy:
1. Identify your Senator. Click
here to find out who your State
Senator is.
2. Address your email. All Senators' email addresses follow the
format
senator.lastname@sen.ca.gov, e.g.,
senator.yee@sen.ca.gov or
senator.perata@ca.gov.
3. Tell your story. Your email message should be short and sweet.
Start by saying a few words about how the high cost of healthcare hurts
you or someone you know, such as:
* I can't afford to buy the medicines I need.
* My insurance gets more expensive every year.
* I work part-time and can't afford insurance.
4. Tell your Senator what you want:
* Healthcare I can count on, that's affordable, that gets costs
under control.
5. Attach your digital photo.
6. Finish with your name, address, city and email. This way, your
Senator will know you're a constituent and have an obligation to
respond.
7. Blind copy
jessicar@health-access.org so we can count how many photograms our
community is sending.
8. Forward this email to your friends.
To get involved or for more information on our effort to win quality,
affordable health care this year, visit

Thank you!!
